Cold sores

What are cold sores?

Cold sores are annoying infections caused by herpes simplex, which is a virus that affects the mucous membranes, causing redness and blisters. The first signs of cold sores include a slight tingling sensation, warmth and redness in the affected area.

As with the majority of viral infections, cold sores tend to be recurrent, that is, they keep returning, and that is why it is important to treat them with specific products.
The main causes of cold sores include:

- stress
fever or a cold
menstrual cycle
exposure to UVA and UVB rays

Every time our immune defences are lowered, there is the risk of getting cold sores.

How can I heal a cold sore?

Precisely due to their viral and recurrent nature, it is important to treat cold sores with specific products. Transparent gels are available at your pharmacy that right from the first application will heal, moisturise and protect the affected area. This allows for reducing the redness and pain and accelerates the healing time of your lips.

What about exposure to the sun?

As mentioned above, exposure to UVA and UVB rays is one of the factors capable of causing cold sores.

If you have already suffered from cold sores, then we recommend that you protect your lips when you go out in the sun in summer and also in the mountains in winter, as well as whenever you use a sunlamp.

You can find specific products at the pharmacy that contain high-protection sunscreens and moisturising and emollient substances which form a transparent film and protect your lips from the ultraviolet rays, the wind, and the cold.
